On the river, a couple of kilometers from Lalinde, stands the original authentic old 13th c mill where hand made paper has been produced for centuries --- in fact, more than 120 different kinds of paper -- every possible kind for the artist, as well as or calligraphists, printers, card makers, restaurant menus, ethings and lithographs, and for anyone who loves paper.
Courses in papermaking are also presented here, or you can simply visit the mill and revel in the beauty of the mill and its contents.
The studio is in the lower part of the mill - at water level, and here the current opwners have been making paper since November 1972. There are many different kinds of paper, but one of their 'special' papers has as main ingredient pure cotton rags, bits of linen and hemp, and is of course mixed with the water of the Couze river -- a small tributary of the Dordogne -- which contains a fair measure of lymeThe variety is huge -- the weight ranging from 30 to 1800 grams. The paper also comes in many colours.
There is a printing press on site and visiting cards, invitations, books, albums, name cards --- anything you heart desires on beautiful handmade paper, can be ordered.
The mill and shop is open from Monday to Saturday from 9-12 and 2-6:30. Closed on Sundays.
